This is “food waste” in the USA. Gorgeous stuff. I know because my friend David started rescuing it almost four years ago. He now redirects 1,000 pounds a day–30,000 pounds a month–from six Whole Foods locations and one Costco to six nonprofits serving those in need. He has a team of volunteers and two vans now. His nonprofit organization is called Helping Feed Atlanta. I’ve written about him a lot. Here’s what we’ve realized. If Costco had a corporate policy to recover “unsellable” fruits and veggies from all its locations (it currently doesn’t), we’d end hunger in our nation today.
