I used to be afraid to ride my bike on this street. And then, after the streetcar came, things changed and I just felt cautious, alert. I eventually connected with some of the people who hung on corners, who rode the streetcar when it was free. We were out there together, sharing space, waiting. But now most of them are gone and all is quiet except for the ding ding ding and the whish of the streetcar. I pay my dollar and ride it — alone — but it doesn’t sit well with me, this whish, this wish that developers have. For condos, hipster bars, boutiques.
