I heard a leader of my suburb-city recently exclaim that “public art is like graffiti” as perhaps a justification why there is zero (zero!) public art where I live. I bit my tongue. You either get it or you don’t. (Or maybe he simply hasn’t seen what truly vibrant cities have to offer regarding art?) I’m a huge supporter of public art, especially street murals. There’s a whole world of art out there worth seeing not that far from the cul de sac. I see it all the time via bike. (See my “The Art of Bike Riding” Flickr album.) And I can take you there if you are a woman looking to learn your way around the city on bike. Let’s talk.
